The Lizzie McGuire Movie: Filming Locations in Rome
The Lizzie McGuire Movie was filmed in Rome in autumn 2002, with scenes at the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Villa d'Este in Tivoli and the Colosseum.
Contains story spoilers. On a class trip to Rome, Lizzie agrees to pose as an Italian pop star and ends up at a music video awards show. The route follows the film's Rome scenes; the awards performance itself was shot in a studio.
Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
After graduation, Lizzie and her classmates embark on a trip to Rome. While visiting the Trevi Fountain, Lizzie is approached by the Italian pop star Paolo Valisari, who notices that she bears a striking resemblance to his singing partner, Isabella Parigi. The fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in the world, and visitors keep up the tradition of throwing a coin into it before leaving "the eternal city".
Visitor guidance: The fountain is in Piazza di Trevi and is very crowded; check current access rules before you go.

The next day, Lizzie feigns illness and meets Paolo. He tells her that Isabella lip syncs and begs her to pose as her at the International Music Video Awards. When Lizzie rides with Paolo on his Vespa around Rome, one of the places they pass is the Pantheon in Piazza della Rotonda. Since the 7th century the Pantheon has been a church dedicated to St. Mary and the Martyrs.
Location precision: The Vespa ride passes many places; the Pantheon is only one of them, so the pin marks the route loosely.
Visitor guidance: The Pantheon is in Piazza della Rotonda in central Rome.

At the International Music Video Awards, Isabella and Gordo expose Paolo, who is actually the one who lip syncs. Isabella introduces Lizzie to the crowd, and the two of them sing "What Dreams Are Made Of". The exterior shots of the awards were filmed in front of the Colosseum, while the performance itself was filmed in a studio. The Colosseum is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built.
Visitor guidance: The Colosseum is at Piazza del Colosseo in central Rome.
