The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed: Postwar Moscow on Screen
The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed (1979) is set in Moscow in autumn 1945 and was filmed at the Bolshoi Theatre, on Gorky Street (now Tverskaya) and, for much of it, in Odesa. Captain Zheglov and the young Sharapov hunt the Black Cat gang through stations, theatres and restaurants. The route follows the investigation, then crosses to the Odesa Film Studio and Shevchenko Park, where postwar Moscow was rebuilt for the cameras. Several Moscow interiors are approximate pins.
