Hanasaku Iroha is set in the fictional spa town of Yunosagi, modelled on Yuwaku Onsen in Kanazawa, with a station borrowed from Nishigishi. Follow Ohana from her grandmother's inn to the lantern festival.
The five stops cover the spa town, the demolished hotel that inspired Kissuisō, the rival inn, the station and the real Bonbori Festival. Several models have since closed or changed, so this is as much a fan trail as a set of sites.
Wim Wenders' Perfect Days follows Hirayama, a Tokyo toilet cleaner who keeps his days exactly the same: the same overalls, the same cassette tapes, the same sandwich under the trees. The city changes around him; he notices the light through the leaves.
This route follows the film's real Tokyo, from the old apartment east of the Sumida to four of the Tokyo Toilet project's designer facilities, the shrine bench where he eats lunch, the sento and Asakusa bar that fill his evenings, and the bridge where the story ends.
Between 1180 and 1185 Japan's two great warrior clans, Taira and Minamoto, fought over the realm, and the war ended with a child emperor, a fleet and the tide at Dan-no-ura. It was the war that led to the first shogun.
This route visits seven battlefield sites in date order, from the bridge at Uji to the Kanmon Straits. Documented events are kept apart from the Heike Monogatari's legends, which the text attributes to the tale. Most battle areas are approximate.
