What do the location labels mean?
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. Fariña follows Sito Miñanco, a fisherman skilled at handling a speedboat who starts work in a tobacco smuggling ring. The real man was born in San Tomé do Mar, in Cambados, and the series opens in 1981.

Location precision: The series does not tie its opening scenes to one street; the pin marks the centre of Cambados, Sito's home town.

  2. Sito's boss Terito leads the clans of the Ría de Arousa, a coast of coves and inlets that let smugglers land tobacco in the dark. The series follows the clans as they weigh moving from tobacco into hashish, with Terito opposed. Later a trip to Panama to launder money puts Sito in touch with cocaine traffickers who want to bring the drug into Europe through Galicia. The ría is one of the five Rías Baixas, in Galicia.

Location precision: The series sets its smuggling across the whole ría; the pin marks the middle of the estuary, not one landing spot.

  3. Pontevedra appears twice in the real story. Sito Miñanco spent six months in 1983 in the Parda prison here, and in August 1989 a jailed dealer, Ricardo Portabales Rodríguez, wrote to a Pontevedra magistrate, a letter that started the investigation. For the series, the crew filmed at the Casa Consistorial (town hall) and at the IES Valle Inclán school.

Location precision: The sources name no single scene site here; the pin marks central Pontevedra.

  4. The series ends with Operation Necora. On the morning of 12 June 1990, 350 officers of the Central Narcotics Department left the main police station in Santiago de Compostela. They had been flown in from Madrid so that nobody local could leak the plan. The crew also filmed at Santiago's Raxoi palace.

Location precision: The pin marks central Santiago de Compostela, not the police station itself.

    Sources

  5. The raid's base of operations was Vilagarcía de Arousa's police station. The series concludes with the Necora raids, the end of the story of the clans of the ría. Vilagarcía is one of the river towns on the south shore of the Ría de Arousa, alongside Vilanova de Arousa, Cambados and O Grove.

Location precision: The pin marks the centre of Vilagarcía; the dossier does not give the police station's address.

Isabel: The Life of Isabella of Castile

The Spanish TV series Isabel (2012) follows Isabella of Castile through real places: the Alcázar of Segovia where she is crowned, the Palacio de los Vivero in Valladolid where she marries, the Toros de Guisando and the Alhambra in Granada. The route runs from her birth in Madrigal de las Altas Torres in 1451 to her death in Medina del Campo in 1504. Some series scenes were shot elsewhere, so the stops follow the history it tells.
