What do the location labels mean?
Exact
The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. In the story, Raja Bharmal of Amber faces invasion and offers Jalaluddin an alliance sealed by the marriage of his daughter, Princess Jodhaa, to the Emperor. The film shot at the forts of Amber and Agra, but only their outer portions were filmed on the spot; the interiors were rebuilt as sets. The real fort overlooks Maota Lake, 11 kilometres from Jaipur.

  2. Palace scenes showing Jodhabai before her marriage to Akbar were filmed at the Roopangarh Fort in Kishangarh. Maharaja Roop Singh of Kishangarh built the fortress in 1648, and it is a former fortress and palace that is today a hotel. It sits on a hill, controlling the important trade route to the Sambhar Salt Lake.

  3. Before the wedding, Jodhaa demands that a shrine to Lord Krishna be built for her inside the Agra Fort, and Jalaluddin agrees. Akbar made Agra his capital in 1558 and ordered the fort rebuilt in 1565. Only its outer portions were filmed on location; the designer photographed the fort and rebuilt its interiors in a studio at Karjat.

  4. The scene where Akbar prays to the Islamic scholar Moinuddin Chishti for a successful conquest of India was filmed at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. The shrine is one of the most popular sites of religious visitation for Sunni Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. In 1568 the real Akbar donated a cauldron to the dargah after winning at Chittorgarh.

  5. Filming began in early November 2006 at Jaipur with the climax sequence and the Second Battle of Panipat. The Panipat battle was shot in the Dhula region on the outskirts of Jaipur, using 250 stuntmen and 5,000 extras. In the climax Akbar leads his army into battle and defeats Sharifuddin in combat.

Location precision: The film names the Dhula region on Jaipur's outskirts, not an exact spot; the pin marks central Jaipur.
