Napoleon Dynamite: Filming Locations in Preston, Idaho

Napoleon's school days are spent dealing with bullies and playing tetherball by himself. The film's big finish is the school election: Pedro gives a despondent speech, then Napoleon, wearing a "Vote for Pedro" shirt, does his dance routine to Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" and receives a standing ovation. Director Jared Hess shot the film in Preston in July 2003, in just 23 days and on a budget of $400,000, while generous locals gave the crew housing and food. Preston High School stands a few blocks from U.S. Highway 91.

The chain of events that brings Uncle Rico to Preston starts here. Grandma Carlinda breaks her tailbone and asks Rico to look after Napoleon and Kip while she recovers.
