Seventeen Moments of Spring: Filming Locations from Moscow to Riga and Meissen
Seventeen Moments of Spring is set in Berlin and Bern in 1945, but it was filmed mostly elsewhere: Arkhangelskoye-Tyurikovo park and Butyrka prison in Moscow, Jauniela in Old Riga, and the Saxon towns of Hohnstein and Meissen, plus the Berlin inn Zur letzten Instanz.
The route follows these real sites in the order of the Soviet spy series, from the Bavarian forest to Bern's Flower Street, and shows how Moscow and Riga stood in for wartime Germany and Switzerland.
Contains major story spoilers.

Cronología y lugares
¿Qué significan las etiquetas de los lugares?
- Exacto
- El marcador señala el sitio real donde ocurrió o se rodó.
- Aproximado
- La zona correcta (una ciudad, un parque o un barrio), pero no un punto preciso.
The series opens in a quiet wood by a pond, where Stierlitz, posing as Herr Bolzen, strolls with Frau Saurich. It was filmed not in Germany but on the Arkhangelskoye-Tyurikovo estate in northern Moscow. The Bavarian forest scenes and the killing of the agent Klaus in episode two were shot there too. The estate, first mentioned in the 16th century, lies beside the Church of the Dormition.
Para el visitante: The estate is a protected park by the Church of the Dormition; the forest scenes were shot on the pond's east shore.

Street views of the tavern Rough Gottlieb were shot at the real Berlin inn Zur letzten Instanz, near Alexanderplatz. It is one of the city's oldest taverns, first documented in 1561, and stands on Waisenstraße in Mitte. The crew spent spring and summer of 1971 in East Germany, mostly in Berlin, so this is one of the few stops in the film's own city.
Para el visitante: A working restaurant at Waisenstraße 14–16, a short walk from Alexanderplatz.

The grim prison scenes inside the Reich Security Main Office building were not filmed in Berlin at all. They were shot in Moscow's Butyrka prison in the Tverskoy District, whose current building dates from 1879. Butyrka is still an active remand prison, so the film's RSHA cells are best seen from the street.

Stierlitz's radio operators Erwin and Kat Kinn live in a house that is bombed early in the story, a blow that complicates his mission. The flat where Kat works was filmed in a well-known Art Nouveau house in central Moscow, at the corner of Khlebny and Maly Rzhevsky lanes, number 6.
Para el visitante: Look from the lane only; the building is residential.

Stierlitz must learn whether the Germans are talking to the Americans: Karl Wolff negotiates with Allen Dulles in neutral Switzerland. The scenes set in Bern were shot in Hohnstein, a small town in Saxon Switzerland east of Pirna, dominated by its castle on a sandstone rock. The crew worked in East Germany from March 1971.

Bern's Flower Street was filmed in Old Riga on Jauniela, "New Street". Director Tatyana Lioznova passed off the odd-numbered side of the street as Bern. Jauniela is only 222 metres long and runs along the east side of the Dome Cathedral, so you can walk the whole film set in a couple of minutes.
Para el visitante: A public street in Riga's Old Town, next to the Dome Cathedral.

Professor Pleischner walks to the safe flat in Bern, then lights a cigarette at a parapet with a view of tiled roofs. These scenes were filmed in Meissen, Saxony, on Schlossbrücke. At the start of episode 11 Bern is represented by Meissen's town hall on the Markt, a late Gothic building from 1472–1480.
Para el visitante: The town hall is on the Markt in Meissen's old town; Schlossbrücke is a short walk away.
