Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: Waikiki to Chinatown
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth sends Ichiban Kasuga to Honolulu. The developers rebuilt a compressed stretch of the city, from the sand of Aloha Beach to the markets of Chinatown, mixing real streets, shops and landmarks with renamed and invented ones.
This route follows that Honolulu from Waikiki into downtown: Waikiki Beach, the International Market Place, the Ala Wai Canal bridge, Ala Moana Center, Iolani Palace and Chinatown. Names and distances have changed — Anaconda Shopping Center stands in for Ala Moana, Aloha Beach for Waikiki — but most of the streets and buildings are recognisable. It is a tour of a real city as a game remembers it.

The sand is almost entirely man-made, and Queen's Beach and Kahanamoku Beach are a short walk along the same shore.

The game renames this stretch of Waikiki the Worldwide Market Village, filling it with souvenir stalls and brand stores. It is the game's version of the International Market Place, an open-air mall that first opened in 1956. The original centre kept a banyan tree at its heart; preservationists saved that tree when the complex was rebuilt, and it reopened in 2016. Today the real mall holds about 90 stores and 10 restaurants, with the tree still standing in the middle.
場所の精度: The Worldwide Market Village is the game's version of the International Market Place; the pin marks the real mall.
訪問のヒント: The mall is open-air; the surviving banyan tree is its centrepiece.

The game never names this bridge, but it is modelled on the Ala Moana Boulevard bridge over the Ala Wai Canal, the artificial waterway dug in 1928 to drain the wetlands that became Waikiki. In the game the crossing is where Kasuga meets the director who ropes him into a stuntman substory, and where he stops for pictures with Chitose. In reality it is an ordinary road bridge over the canal; the pin marks the canal itself.
場所の精度: The game never names its bridge or canal; the pin marks the Ala Wai Canal the bridge crosses.
訪問のヒント: The bridge carries Ala Moana Boulevard over the Ala Wai Canal.

Anaconda Shopping Center is the game's name for Ala Moana Center, and it acts as Honolulu's great bazaar. The first Sujimon appear here, and players keep coming back to buy supplies and sell loot. It is also the stronghold of the Barracudas, the gang that rules the game's criminal underworld. The real Ala Moana opened in 1959 as the largest mall in the United States; today it is the largest open-air shopping center in the world.
場所の精度: Anaconda Shopping Center is the game's version of Ala Moana Center; the pin marks the real mall.
訪問のヒント: The real Ala Moana Center is a working mall between Waikiki and downtown Honolulu.

Iolani Palace is one of the few real Honolulu landmarks that keeps its own name in the game. It appears on the city map but has no important part in the story. The real palace was the royal residence of Hawaii's rulers, and after the monarchy was overthrown in 1893 it served as the territory's capitol until 1969. It opened as a museum in 1978 and is the only royal palace on US soil.
訪問のヒント: The palace is open for guided tours; check times before visiting.

The game's Chinatown is a market district by day, and by night the invented Nirvana Hotel towers over it. The hotel is fiction, but the streets are not: this is Honolulu's Chinatown, known for its Chinese American community and one of the oldest in the United States. Start at Oahu Market, opened in 1904 and still selling fresh fish and produce. Much of the district was rebuilt after the 1900 fire, which is why so many buildings date from 1901.
訪問のヒント: Oahu Market is open daily; the surrounding streets are best explored on foot.
