  1. Fern's story begins in Empire, Nevada, a company town of the US Gypsum Corporation. In the film she loses her job when the plant closes in 2011; she had worked there for years with her husband, who recently died. The real plant shut on 31 January 2011, eliminating 95 jobs, and left a large shuttered plant that made the town seem almost like a ghost town. The film was partly shot in Empire, and Fern comes back at the end to the factory and the home she shared with her husband.

場所の精度: The film does not single out one building; the pin marks the town of Empire, not the plant itself.

  2. Fern's friend Linda invites her to a desert rendezvous in Arizona organized by Bob Wells, a real van-dweller who plays himself in the film. There Fern learns basic survival and self-sufficiency skills for the road. At a later gathering the nomads pay tribute to Swankie's life by tossing stones into the campfire. Wells's real Rubber Tramp Rendezvous is held in Quartzsite each January; by 2018 it had drawn over 3,000 participants.

  3. Fern takes a job as a camp host at the Cedar Pass Campgrounds in Badlands National Park, South Dakota. Dave, a nomad she met and danced with at the desert gathering, works there too. When he falls ill and has emergency surgery, Fern visits him in hospital. The park protects sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles, and Cedar Pass is one of its two campgrounds, beside a lodge with modern cabins and full-service dining.

  4. Fern and Dave take restaurant jobs at Wall Drug, the roadside attraction in Wall, South Dakota. One night Dave's son turns up looking for him, saying his wife is pregnant and asking him to meet his grandchild. Fern encourages him to go; Dave suggests she come along, but she declines. The film also has its main characters visit the dinosaur statue, an 80-foot brontosaurus sculpture. Wall Drug still offers free ice water.

Easy Rider: Los Angeles to New Orleans

Easy Rider sends two bikers east from Los Angeles toward Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and the film really was shot along the way: at Los Angeles airport, on Route 66 in Flagstaff, in Monument Valley, in New Mexico and in Louisiana, ending at a cemetery in New Orleans and a country road near Krotz Springs. The route follows Wyatt and Billy from the drug sale in Los Angeles to the final scene in Louisiana, with a stop at each place the film is known to have used. The commune was a stand-in staged in Malibu, and some sites are approximate.

Fargo: Minnesota Stand-Ins and a Snowbound Crime

Fargo (1996) is set in Fargo, Brainerd and Moose Lake but was mostly filmed around Minneapolis, from a Richfield dealership and downtown garages to a Square Lake cabin. The route follows the botched kidnapping from the bar deal to the final arrest, pairing each story place with the site where the Coen brothers shot it; several are demolished or relocated. It ends in Fargo itself, where the wood chipper prop is on show.

Tarantino's Los Angeles: Three Films, One City

Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood were shot around Los Angeles, from a Hawthorne diner to Musso & Frank on Hollywood Boulevard. The route follows the three films in release order: the diner and boxing venue of Pulp Fiction, the Del Amo mall and strip joint of Jackie Brown, then Musso & Frank, Larry Edmunds Bookshop, the Bruin Theater and the Simi Valley ranch of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Several sites are gone or rebuilt, such as the Hawthorne Grill and the original Spahn Ranch, and the pins mark the filming locations.
