The Bridge (Bron/Broen): Øresund Crossing

The series opens here. A body, apparently cut in half at the waist, is found in the middle of the Øresund Bridge, exactly on the border between Denmark and Sweden. It turns out to be two women: the upper half of a Swedish politician and the lower half of a Danish woman, so the case belongs to both countries. The bridge opened in 2000 and carries both road and rail, so you can cross it by car or train between Malmö and Copenhagen.

In season one, Saga and Martin come to this wooden bathhouse on the Malmö shore to question a waitress. The old wooden building was erected in 1898 and is an open-air bath and restaurant.

Saga's flat stands in Malmö's Western Harbour, right below the towering Turning Torso, across the man-made canal. The exterior shots were taken at Ankargatan 9; only the outside is the real flat. The Turning Torso above it is a skyscraper built in nine segments of five-storey pentagons that twist as it rises.

The exterior of the Malmö police headquarters in the series is a building at Barkgatan 11 in the Möllevången area. In real life it houses a yoga studio, a community centre and an agency for the unemployed. The interiors of both the Malmö and Copenhagen police stations were shot in studios in Ystad. Only the facade is the real thing.

A few scenes of season two were shot on the artificial island of Peberholm (Pepparholmen in Swedish), including a nerve-wracking car chase. The island was built as the crossover point between the bridge and the tunnel, in the Danish part of the Øresund strait. It is not accessible to the public, so it can only be seen from a distance.
