Timeline & locations

What do the location labels mean?
Exact
The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. A man pulled from the Mediterranean with two bullets in his back and no memory finds a tiny laser projector implanted in his hip. It displays the number of a safe deposit box in Zurich. Inside he finds currencies, several passports and a gun; he leaves the gun and takes the name on the American passport: Jason Bourne. The bank is fictional, and some Zurich scenes were actually filmed in Prague. The pin marks Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich's famous banking street, where the two largest Swiss banks have their headquarters at Paradeplatz.

Location precision: The film's bank is not a real address and some Zurich scenes were shot in Prague; the pin marks Bahnhofstrasse as a stand-in for the banking district.

Visitor guidance: Bahnhofstrasse runs from the main station to the lake; tram stops include Paradeplatz.

  2. Bourne offers Marie Kreutz $20,000 to drive him to an address in Paris. In the apartment the first killer sent for him, Castel, ambushes them and ends the fight by throwing himself from a window. Director Doug Liman insisted on shooting in Paris rather than the cheaper Montreal. The famous car chase was filmed by a second unit in various parts of the city and edited into one journey. Liman admitted that anyone who really knows Paris will find it illogical.

Location precision: The apartment and chase were assembled from many Paris locations that do not connect on the real map; the pin marks the city centre.

  3. The first film ends on a Greek island. Some time after Treadstone is shut down, Bourne finds Marie renting out scooters to tourists on Mykonos, and they reunite. The shop is set up in the film as a hard-to-find place. Matt Damon has since returned to the island regularly, which helped make Mykonos a celebrity destination.

Location precision: The film does not give the shop's address; the pin marks Mykonos Town.

  4. In The Bourne Supremacy, Bourne follows the CIA to Berlin and kidnaps former Treadstone technician Nicky Parsons in Alexanderplatz. She tells him that Ward Abbott had been Conklin's boss, a first crack in the story he has been told. Most of the film was shot in and around Berlin. Alexanderplatz is a large public square and transport hub in the central Mitte district, with the Fernsehturm TV tower and the Nikolai Quarter nearby.

  5. Hunting for the daughter of the murdered politician Neski, Bourne travels to Moscow. Kirill finds and wounds him, Bourne flees in a stolen taxi and Kirill chases him. At the end Bourne finds Irena and confesses to murdering her parents, apologizing to her as he leaves. Some portions of the car chase and the ending were shot in Moscow. When The Bourne Ultimatum needed Moscow, Berlin doubled for it.

  6. In The Bourne Ultimatum, Bourne arranges a meeting with the journalist Simon Ross at London Waterloo station. The station opened in 1848 and is the second busiest in the UK.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Nishinomiya Pilgrimage

Haruhi Suzumiya follows a bored narrator, Kyon, and an eccentric classmate who founds a club to search for aliens, time travellers and espers. The story never names its city outright, but its setting is Nishinomiya in Hyogo, where author Nagaru Tanigawa lived from the age of three. The route visits the real places that served as models: the school, two stations, a riverside park, a mountain and Koshien Stadium. Story place names are altered, so most pins mark a model, not a set.

Detective Conan: Hokuei, Tottori's Conan Town

Detective Conan is the story of a teenage detective shrunk to a child's size, and its author comes from a small coastal town in Tottori, Japan. Gosho Aoyama was born in Daiei, now part of Hokuei, and the town has turned itself into Conan Town. The route visits the birthplace, the Conan-themed station, the bridge, the manga museum and the airport that carries Conan's name. The sources do not tie any story scene to these places, so the stops mark the town's own tributes.

The statues are real places to visit; the "Hino Country" story around them is the project's own.
