Harry's confrontation with Malfoy, who is then turned into a ferret by Moody, was shot in the courtyard quadrangle of the New College Cloister in Oxford. The cloisters, consecrated as a burial site in 1400, sit by the western wall of the chapel, and their large holm oak tree features in the scene in which Malfoy becomes a white ferret.

The Divinity School served as the room where McGonagall teaches Gryffindor students how to dance for the Yule Ball; it had also been Hogwarts' infirmary in previous films. Built in Oxford between 1427 and 1483, it is the oldest surviving purpose-built building for university use, and its elaborate lierne vaulting has 455 bosses.
