Home and Away: Summer Bay Filming Locations

Home and Away is set in Summer Bay, "a fictional seaside town in New South Wales", and Palm Beach has played that town since the show began in 1988. In 2009 the mayor of Pittwater Council presented cast members with the key to Palm Beach. Today tours of the show's exterior sets run throughout the year. Palm Beach is also the northernmost beach in Greater Sydney, so it is a natural place to start.

Not every Summer Bay beach scene is shot at Palm Beach. The exterior scenes are filmed mainly there and at Fisherman's Beach in Collaroy, further south on the Northern Beaches. On screen the town includes a beach, a high school, a diner, a bait shop, a garage and a surf club.

The Summer Bay House and Caravan Park are not at the beach at all. The Jackeroo Ranch estate in Kenthurst has hosted their exteriors since 1988. After a bushfire destroyed both sets in December 2002, the house was rebuilt in its original location, with a grey roof instead of a red one. It is the only house still seen on screen since the pilot episode.
