Follow in the footsteps of Jesus through the Holy Land: from the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth to the Jordan baptism site, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee shore, Jericho, Gethsemane and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
The Gospels name many places but rarely fix a spot, so most stops here rest on tradition. Each is labelled as exact, approximate or speculative, with what archaeology can and cannot show.
Ben-Hur's Jerusalem, Nazareth and chariot arena were filmed in Italy: Cinecittà Studios in Rome for the 1959 classic, and Matera and Cinecittà World for the 2016 remake.
The route follows the story from Jerusalem and Nazareth to the sea battle, the great chariot race and the Valley of the Lepers, and shows where each scene was shot. Most stops are stand-ins for the story's places, and each says so.
