La zona correcta (una ciudad, un parque o un barrio), pero no un punto preciso.
Ficticio
El lugar solo existe en la historia; si hay marcador, señala un equivalente real o su inspiración.
  1. The film opens and closes with the Feast of St Gerasimos, the island's patron saint, whose body is carried in procession over the sick lying along the route each 16 August. For the cameras, those scenes were shot not at the saint's own monastery in the island's heart but at the ruined monastery of Agios Fanentes on a promontory above Sami. The 11th-century complex kept working until the 1953 earthquake and still shows medieval architecture and Byzantine frescoes.

Precisión del lugar: The source places the ruins above Sami; the pin marks Sami's hillside area, not the monastery itself.

Para el visitante: A path leads there through the ancient acropolis just east of Sami.

  2. The story is set in Argostoli, but the 1953 earthquake destroyed most of that town, so the film recreated it on the east coast at the port of Sami. The Venetian-style colonnade, bell-tower, square and town hall were all built for the production, covering more modern buildings. In the plot, the Italian garrison arrives and the inhabitants surrender immediately. The sets were dismantled straight after filming.

  3. When Captain Corelli and the Italian army arrive, the soldiers pitch their tents at Antisamos Beach, a couple of miles east of Sami on the other side of the peninsula. Along with Argostoli and Sami, it is one of the places where the film was mainly shot.

  4. Myrtos is a mile-and-a-half arc of dazzling white pebbles under sheer cliffs. In the film it is where a WWI mine washes up and is detonated as the islanders watch, and where German Captain Weber tries to make friends with the Italians as they cavort with local women. It has been voted the best Greek beach 12 times.

Para el visitante: Myrtos is in the Pylaros area on the island's north-west coast.

  5. A ruined village served as the partisans' hideout, where Corelli is taken to meet Mandras, played by Christian Bale. It is also where the film stages its shocking machine-gun massacre. The village is Old Vlachata, just outside Karavomilos and, like the original Argostoli, a casualty of the 1953 earthquake.

Precisión del lugar: The source places the ruins just outside Karavomilos; the pin marks Karavomilos village.

  6. The south of the island is dominated by Mount Ainos, its tallest peak at 1,628 metres. On its northern slopes the Italians are ambushed by the German army and ordered to surrender their weapons. In the film, after Italy surrenders, the Germans insist on disarming the Italians, and thousands are later shot as traitors.

Precisión del lugar: The source gives only the mountain's northern slopes; the pin marks the mountain.

Homage to Catalonia: Barcelona to Aragon

George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia is set in Barcelona and on the Aragon front in 1937, from Alcubierre and the lines around Huesca to the May Days on La Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya. It is Orwell's account of fighting with the POUM militia, written from his own experience. The route follows the book in order: the village where rifles are handed out, the siege lines at Huesca, the telephone exchange where the street fighting began, the rooftop on La Rambla and a quiet day in Barbastro.

The Grapes of Wrath: Oklahoma to California

John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath follows the Joad family from a repossessed farm near Sallisaw, Oklahoma, along Route 66 through Needles to Weedpatch Camp in California. Tom Joad starts the story at McAlester prison. This route follows that migration in five stops, from the prison gates to a New Deal camp south of Bakersfield. The Santa Rosa stop is tied to the 1940 film rather than the book.
