Gone Girl: Filming Locations in Cape Girardeau
Gone Girl is set in the made-up town of North Carthage, Missouri, but David Fincher shot it almost entirely in Cape Girardeau: The Bar on Themis Street, the Common Pleas Courthouse, the old federal building and the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi.
The route follows Nick Dunne's first days as the husband of a missing woman, from the bar to the press conference, the vigil, the police station and the bridge. One stop, the Drury Lodge, is marked approximately: it has closed and the pin sits on its street.
Contains major story spoilers.

On the day his wife vanishes, Nick Dunne is at The Bar, which he co-owns with his twin sister Margo. In the film it stands in the fictitious town of North Carthage; in reality it is 117 Themis Street, on the corner of North Spanish Street in downtown Cape Girardeau. Nick is here when the mysterious break-in at home is supposed to have happened, and he returns to find Amy missing on their fifth anniversary.
Para el visitante: Downtown at 117 Themis Street; check locally whether a bar is currently operating there.

The commanding Common Pleas Courthouse, at 44 North Lorimier Street, overlooks The Bar and all of downtown. As the investigation grows, the media find Nick's apathy suspicious, and he loses public support with a disastrously offhand performance at a press conference held here. The gazebo on the north side of the courthouse grounds is where Nick later addresses a crowd at the candlelight vigil for his missing wife.
Para el visitante: Walk around the courthouse grounds at 44 North Lorimier Street; the gazebo is on the north side.

Amy's mother announces that Drury Hotels North Carthage will become a campaign centre for the search for her missing daughter. The lightly disguised venue was actually the Drury Lodge at 104 South Vantage Drive, west of downtown on I-55. Amy's fame as the inspiration for her parents' Amazing Amy books ensures widespread press coverage of the search. The hotel is now closed, so there is nothing to visit; the pin marks South Vantage Drive.

The North Carthage Police Department, where Nick faces uncomfortable questioning from Detective Boney, is Cape Girardeau's old federal building at 339 Broadway. Since filming, the building has been converted into an office building, so it is best seen from the street.
Para el visitante: View the exterior from Broadway; it now houses offices.

The modern Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, opened in 2003, carries traffic across the Mississippi River between Cape Girardeau and East Cape Girardeau, Illinois. In the 2014 film it appears in the background of the scene at the house where Nick's dad lives, and characters are seen driving across it as they enter or leave town. Principal photography began in Cape Girardeau on 15 September 2013.
