  1. Tick, a Sydney-based drag queen who goes by Mitzi Del Bra, takes an offer to perform in Alice Springs, and the story begins on a Sydney club stage. The Imperial Hotel in Erskineville was the filming location for the opening and closing scenes, so the film ends where it starts, with Tick and Adam performing in the same club. The hotel has hosted drag shows since 1983 and is still an icon for Sydney's LGBT community.

  2. The first big stop on the road is Broken Hill, where the trio check into a hotel covered in murals. The Palace Hotel stood in for it, and producer Al Clark called it "drag queen heaven". The film's own verdict on the murals is "tack-o-rama". Owner Mario Celotto painted a Botticelli's Venus on a ceiling around 1980. The pub, at 227 Argent Street, is now heritage-listed, and you can book the Priscilla Suite.

  3. After the travellers leave the main highway to save time, the bus breaks down in the middle of the desert. Adam spends the whole day repainting it in lavender to cover the graffiti. A location guide places the scene at the Mundi Mundi Plain Lookout, beyond Silverton, northwest of Broken Hill. Stranded there, they perform at a corroboree with a group of friendly Aboriginal Australians, who then help them get Priscilla to Bob.

場所の精度: The film shows only a stretch of empty desert; a location guide names the Mundi Mundi Plain Lookout, and the pin marks that lookout.

  4. With Bob now travelling with them, the bus stops for repairs at the remote opal-mining town of Coober Pedy. Adam is attacked here by a homophobic gang, and Bob and Bernadette save him. The production filmed in this remote, rough-and-tumble opal mining town, and it features prominently in the film. Called the "opal capital of the world", Coober Pedy is a place where many residents prefer to live in caves bored into the hillsides.

場所の精度: The sources place the scenes in Coober Pedy generally, and the pin marks the town centre.

  5. The trio set out for a four-week run at the casino, and Alice Springs is the destination of the whole trip. Arriving at the hotel, Tick finds that he and his wife Marion have an eight-year-old son, Benji. Lasseters in Alice Springs is the resort featured in the film. The complex has a hotel, a casino and the Alice Springs Convention Centre.

  6. Before the final shows, the three travellers fulfill a long-held dream of Adam's: to climb Kings Canyon in full drag regalia. The script first called for Uluṟu, but the organisations responsible for the monument rejected the request, so the scene was filmed at Kings Canyon with the dialogue rewritten slightly. The canyon lies in Watarrka National Park, 323 km southwest of Alice Springs, and is notable for its cycads and permanent rock pools.

場所の精度: The pin marks the national park that contains Kings Canyon; the film does not show the exact climbing route.

Crocodile Dundee: Kakadu to New York

Crocodile Dundee follows a Northern Territory bushman from the billabongs of Kakadu to the Plaza Hotel and the subways of Manhattan. Its Walkabout Creek is really the pub at McKinlay, Queensland; its outback is Anbangbang Billabong and Gunlom Falls; its New York runs from Newark airport to Columbus Circle. The route follows reporter Sue Charlton and Mick Dundee from the outback to New York, one filming location per scene. A few places stand in for others, and the captions say where.

The Beach: From Bangkok to Maya Bay

Danny Boyle's The Beach (2000) follows a young backpacker from Bangkok's Khao San Road to a secret island beach, shot at Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Le, from Alex Garland's 1996 novel. The route runs from Khao San Road through Ko Samui, a Khao Yai waterfall and Maya Bay to Ko Pha Ngan. Several stops are stand-ins: hotel interiors were shot in Phuket, the waterfall jump in Khao Yai, and the island itself is invented.

Eat Pray Love: Rome, India and Bali

Eat Pray Love, the 2010 film of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir, was shot around Piazza Navona in Rome, at a pizzeria in Naples, in Pataudi, India, and around Ubud and Padang Padang Beach in Bali. Julia Roberts plays Liz, who leaves a settled life for a year of travel: in the memoir, four months in Italy eating, three in India praying and the end of the year in Bali. This route follows those three legs through the places where the scenes were filmed. The memoir's ashram is unnamed, so the India stop marks only the town where the film shot it.
