30 Rock: Rockefeller Center and Manhattan Filming Locations
30 Rock is set at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown Manhattan but mostly filmed at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, with Battery Park City and Douglaston standing in for Cleveland and Needmore.
The route follows the sitcom from its NBC address and studio, through the Queens soundstages where the sets were built, to the New York neighbourhoods that played other towns, and ends at the cast reunion at Radio City Music Hall.
Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
The show takes its name from this address. Liz Lemon's sketch show TGS is set in the fictional Studio 6H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, a nod to the real NBC Studios here, which also produce Saturday Night Live. The skyscraper is NBC's headquarters, and SNL's Studio 8H is the largest studio in the building. When 30 Rock went live, it moved into that very room: two episodes, "Live Show" and "Live from Studio 6H", were broadcast from Studio 8H instead of the usual single-camera film format.
Visitor guidance: The tower is NBC's working headquarters, bounded by Sixth Avenue, 49th and 50th Streets and Rockefeller Plaza.

Most of what you see inside TGS was shot not in Manhattan but in Queens. Silvercup Studios in Long Island City hosted the interior scenes. The building began as a bakery making Silvercup bread, finished in 1930, and closed in 1975 after a labour dispute. The show often built elaborate sets, once spending three days on one that appeared on screen for only six seconds.

When the story needed Cleveland, Ohio, the production stayed in New York. In the episode "Cleveland", Battery Park City doubled for the Ohio city.

In the episode "Hiatus", the story goes to a small town called Needmore, Pennsylvania. It was not filmed in Pennsylvania at all: the Queens neighbourhood of Douglaston stood in for it.

Years after the finale, the cast came back to Rockefeller Center. On 11 October 2026 Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer held a one-night-only reunion at Radio City Music Hall, never to be televised. Guests included Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Conan O'Brien. It raised money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harlem, a nod to an episode where Tracy Jordan struggles to film a commercial for the same organization.
Visitor guidance: Radio City Music Hall is a public venue next to 30 Rockefeller Plaza; check its schedule for shows and tours.
