EuroTrip: From Ohio to the Vatican
A dumped teenager from Ohio crosses Europe to find his German pen pal: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bratislava, Berlin and finally the Vatican. The joke is that nearly all of it was shot in one city, Prague, apart from a single beach scene in Rostock.
Each stop pairs the story city with the real place that played it, so you can see where the fiction and the film set part ways. Story cities are approximate; the Prague filming spots are exact.
Contains major story spoilers.
Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
The story starts in Hudson, Ohio, where Scotty Thomas is dumped by his girlfriend right after high school graduation. He ends up in Europe chasing his German pen pal Mieke, but the Ohio scenes were shot in Prague: the opening was filmed at the International School of Prague. The graduation party needed a house with a backyard, which the production had to hunt for all over the city. The pin marks the school, the stand-in for Ohio. It is a working school, so view it from outside.

Scotty and Cooper first arrive in London, where they befriend a Manchester United football hooligan firm led by Mad Maynard. After a night of drinking they wake up on a bus bound for Paris with their new friends. Nothing here was filmed in London: apart from one beach scene in Rostock, the whole film was shot in Prague. The pin marks the story city only.

In Paris the pair meet classmates Jenny and Jamie, fraternal twins touring Europe, and the group sets off for Berlin to find Mieke. The Paris railway station boarding scene was filmed at Prague's main railway station, Praha hlavní nádraží. The station opened in 1871 as Franz Josef Station, and its Art Nouveau building and hall date from 1901 to 1909.
Visitor guidance: A working station in central Prague, open to travellers; the Art Nouveau main hall is the part to look at.

In Amsterdam, Jamie is robbed in an alley and the group loses everyone's money, passports and train tickets. Writers had first imagined Cooper mistaking the Anne Frank House for a brothel, but that scene was replaced in the Amsterdam sequence with one involving a dominatrix. As with London, Amsterdam itself was not filmed; the pin marks the city centre.

Hitchhiking to Berlin, a language misunderstanding sends the friends to Bratislava. They find a great exchange rate for the dollar and head to a nightclub. Bratislava on screen is an air base in Milovice, chosen for its ravaged look; when the crew came back and found it cleaned up, broken windows and graffiti had to be added back. The pin marks the town of Milovice; the exact airfield spot is not given in the source.

The next day a Slovak man drives the group to Berlin. There they learn from Mieke's stepfather that she has left with a summer tour group and will be reachable in Rome for only a short time. The scenes with a German lorry driver were filmed on the then-unfinished D5 motorway near Plzeň, west of Prague. This stop is a stretch of road rather than a place, so it has no pin.
Not pinned on the mapVisitability not confirmedLocation precision: The source names only the D5 motorway near Plzeň, not a spot.

In the Vatican, Scotty and Cooper search for Mieke and accidentally ring the bell of San Marco, which signals that the Pope has died. Scotty appears on a balcony and the crowd below mistakes him for the newly elected pope. The Vatican scenes were really filmed inside the National Museum in Prague, at the top of Wenceslas Square. Its main building was built by Josef Schulz between 1885 and 1891.
Visitor guidance: The museum is on Wenceslas Square and open to visitors; check opening hours before going.
