No Time to Die: From Matera to Safin's Island
Bond's final outing opens beside a lake in Norway and closes on an island in the Faroe Islands, with a long detour through southern Italy and a retirement in Jamaica in between. The story's geography is real: Matera's cave lanes, a bridge over the Gravina gorge, a railway station at Sapri, a waterfront house at Port Antonio, the Atlantic Ocean Road and the cliffs of Kalsoy.
The route follows the film's order — the frozen-lake flashback, the grave and the bridge, the Matera car chase, the farewell at Sapri, five quiet years in Jamaica and the 'Cuban' harbour that is really Port Antonio, then the Norway drive and the villain's island in the Faroe Islands. The beach house in Jamaica and the lake house in Norway were sets, both since dismantled.

Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
The film opens in winter with a young Madeleine at her lakeside home. A masked man, Safin, murders her mother; Madeleine shoots him and flees onto a frozen lake, where he saves her from drowning. The house was not a real building but a set built for the film on the northern tip of Langvann, a lake about two miles west of Hakadal in Norway. Hakadal is a village in Nittedal, about 20 miles north of Oslo, and can be reached by rail or bus.

Bond goes to Vesper Lynd's grave in Matera to make peace with the past. Instead the tomb explodes and SPECTRE men led by Primo attack him; he fights his way out and escapes by leaping from a bridge. That bridge is the Ponte Acquedotto sul torrente Gravina, on the western edge of Gravina in Puglia. Documented since at least 1686, it was restored after the earthquake of 1722 and turned into an aqueduct.
Visitor guidance: The bridge crosses the Gravina gorge on the western edge of Gravina in Puglia; it is a public road bridge.

Bond and Madeleine are staying in the cave town of Matera, and after the ambush they flee through it. The second unit shot the chase in late August 2019: an Aston Martin DB5 through the streets of the Sassi, rammed by a Range Rover on Piazza San Giovanni in front of the church, then donuts and a getaway in a cloud of smoke. The Sassi are two districts of cave dwellings inhabited since the Paleolithic, made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Today they hold hotels, pubs and businesses, and Matera is a well-used filming location.
Location precision: The chase runs through many of the Sassi's lanes; the pin marks the Sassi district of Matera.
Visitor guidance: The Sassi are the old town of Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the lanes and churches are open to walk.

Convinced Madeleine has betrayed him, Bond screeches to a halt on Piazza Vittorio Veneto and puts her on a train, sending her away for good. The scene was shot in Sapri throughout September 2019. Sapri is a small port town in the province of Salerno, in Campania, south-western Italy, on the Tyrrhenian Sea about 10 km from Maratea.
Visitor guidance: Sapri railway station stands on Piazza Vittorio Veneto in the town centre, on the Tyrrhenian coast.

Five years after Italy, Bond has retired to Jamaica. He lives in a waterfront house on Cocoa Walk Bay, east of Port Antonio on the island's northeastern coast, about 60 miles from Kingston. The house was built for the film and dismantled afterwards. The CIA officer Felix Leiter finds him here and asks him to extract a scientist, Obruchev, from a SPECTRE party in Cuba.

Cuba is really Jamaica. The harbour at which Bond arrives is Boundbrook Wharf, just west of Port Antonio, and it is here he meets the CIA agent Paloma before they infiltrate the SPECTRE party together. Later Obruchev is bundled aboard a seaplane and flown to a trawler where Leiter waits; Ash turns on them, shoots Leiter and leaves the ship to sink as he escapes with the scientist. Boundbrook Wharf is also where the Banana Boat Song, "Day-O", is set, and bananas are still loaded here.
Visitor guidance: Boundbrook Wharf is on the Port Antonio waterfront, still used for shipping bananas.

Bond finds Madeleine at her childhood home in Norway and meets her young daughter, Mathilde. When Ash and his men close in he drives them away along the Atlantic Ocean Road, the causeway across an archipelago in Møre og Romsdal. The production shot the driving sequence here in June 2019, with an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The road is an 8.3 km stretch of County Road 64 opened on 7 July 1989, built on small islands and skerries linked by causeways and eight bridges; Storseisundet Bridge is the most prominent. It has been called the world's best road trip.
Visitor guidance: The Atlantic Ocean Road runs across an archipelago in Møre og Romsdal; its Storseisundet Bridge is the famous viewpoint.

The finale is set on Safin's private island, which is really Kalsoy in the Faroe Islands, an island of Denmark. The villain's lair does not exist: a harbour and missile silos were added digitally in the bay south of the village of Trøllanes. Bond and Nomi infiltrate the nanobot factory with a submersible glider; Bond is killed as missiles destroy the facility. The northern scenery also stood in for the Kuril Islands. The real island is quiet and reached by ferry, with a lighthouse at Kallur.
Location precision: Safin's lair exists only on screen, added digitally to the bay south of Trøllanes; the pin marks Kalsoy, the real island behind it.
Visitor guidance: Kalsoy is an isolated island reached by ferry.
