Tenet: From the Kyiv Opera to Stalsk-12
A CIA officer called the Protagonist joins Tenet, a secret organisation fighting a war across time. Inverted bullets and a Russian oligarch named Sator pull him from a Kyiv opera house to Mumbai, Oslo, the Amalfi Coast and Tallinn, chasing a device sent back from the future.
This route follows the film's real locations: Tallinn's Linnahall standing in for the Kyiv opera house, Colaba in Mumbai, the Oslo freeport sequence, the gardens of Villa Cimbrone above Amalfi, the Tallinn streets of the car chase and the California ghost town used for Stalsk-12. The Oslo Freeport and Stalsk-12 are fictional, so their pins mark the real places the film points to.

Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
- Fictional
- The place exists only in the story; any pin marks a real-world stand-in or inspiration.
Tenet opens on 'the 14th', as the Protagonist leads a covert CIA extraction during a staged siege at an Opera House in Kyiv. Compromised, he is saved by a masked operative whose bag carries an orange trinket, then swallows a suicide pill that proves to be a test. The production rejected the Royal Swedish Opera as a stand-in and chose Tallinn's Linnahall, a semi-abandoned venue built for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It still stands by the harbour, just beyond the Old Town walls.
Visitor guidance: The Linnahall hosts occasional exhibitions and tours; its harbourside exterior can be seen at any time.
The Protagonist follows inverted munitions to Mumbai, where Priya Singh deals in arms and explains that a turnstile is a device that inverts entropy. The production spent five days in the city, shooting at Breach Candy Hospital, Cafe Mondegar, Colaba Causeway and other spots, and used the Gateway of India for a scene involving forty boats. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, open since 1903 in Colaba, was also a location; it faces the harbour beside the Gateway.
Visitor guidance: The Taj stands next to the Gateway of India in Colaba; both are in the heart of the tourist waterfront.

To earn Kat's help, the Protagonist and Neil break into Sator's freeport facility at Oslo Airport to steal a forged Goya, but two masked men emerge from either side of a machine. The freeport is fiction: its interiors were built at Tallinn's Kumu Art Museum, and the airport was played by Victorville Airport. The film bought a real Boeing 747 for the plane-crash sequence rather than use miniatures. Oslo Airport itself lies about 35 km northeast of the city.

In Italy, Kat introduces the Protagonist to Sator, who agrees to help steal the artifact. The Amalfi Coast scenes were shot at Villa Cimbrone, a historic villa in Ravello dating from at least the 11th century and famous for its belvedere, the Terrace of Infinity. It appears only briefly on screen and is now a hotel, and its gardens are open to the public.
Visitor guidance: The villa is a hotel; its gardens and the Terrace of Infinity are open to visitors.

At a freeport in Tallinn the inverted Sator interrogates the Protagonist and Neil, and shoots Kat with an inverted bullet. They invert through the turnstile, and the inverted Protagonist drives back to the ambush for the hidden artifact — the film's backward car chase. The shoot closed the Linnahall, Pärnu Highway and adjacent streets, and Laagna Road was shut for a month; the Tallinn Freeport exterior was filmed at the city docks. Laagna tee still cuts through the Lasnamäe district.
Location precision: The chase was filmed along several closed roads, chiefly Laagna tee; the pin marks a point on that road.
Visitor guidance: Laagna tee is a public road through the Lasnamäe district of Tallinn.

The finale is a temporal pincer: the Tenet forces attack the nuclear hypocenter at Stalsk-12, the closed city that is Sator's hometown, while an inverted team moves the other way. Filming moved to Eagle Mountain in October, where an abandoned town was built and extras wore military camouflage. Over thirty buildings were prefabricated in Los Angeles and shipped to the desert site; the real Stalsk-12 exists only in the film, so the pin marks Eagle Mountain.
