What do the location labels mean?
Exact
The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. The Equalizer 3 opens its Italian chapter on the road. Wounded in Sicily, Robert McCall drives the Amalfi Coast, pulls over and slips into unconsciousness from shock. The film shot on the coastal road at Punta del Vento, between Capo d'Orso and Erchie in the municipality of Maiori, where it also staged a gunfight and a night-time motorcycle chase. The headland gives the movie its first taste of the cliffs and sea that Altamonte sits between.

Location precision: The guide names the headland, not a single bend of the road; the pin marks Capo d'Orso near Maiori.

Visitor guidance: Narrow coastal road with little verge; take care and do not stop on the bends.

  2. Altamonte, the sleepy village where McCall is nursed back to health, is Atrani. The marshal Gio rescues him on the coast road and brings him to the remote coastal town, where Dr Enzo treats him. Production designer Naomi Shohan scouted Italy for a month before choosing Atrani as the main setting. A bar for Aminah, played by Gaia Scodellaro, was built in the village's small square, and this is where McCall slowly befriends the locals.

Location precision: The film's square and streets are spread across the village; the pin marks the centre of Atrani.

Visitor guidance: Atrani is a small village beside Amalfi; arrive on foot or by the coast road.

  3. High above Atrani, a small clifftop sanctuary perched 700 steps above the square served as the film's symbol of McCall's recovery, and the director shot both interiors and exteriors here. The church was built in the 10th century on top of Mount Aureo. Its name comes from a legend that the Virgin pardoned a man who was banished unjustly and sentenced to be hanged. The long climb is part of the visit.

Visitor guidance: Reached by a long flight of steps from the village; bring water and good shoes.

  4. Minori, the next town along the coast, lent Altamonte a second piazza. The small square outside the Basilica of Santa Trofimena, with via Dietro la Chiesa and via Lama, was furnished with vintage signs and light displays for several scenes, including a wedding in the square. The basilica holds the relics of the patron saint in its crypt. At the end of the film McCall celebrates with the locals after their football team's victory.

Visitor guidance: A working basilica in the town centre; keep quiet during services.

  5. The film leaves the coast for Naples, where the Camorra brothers' reach is felt. In the story an enraged Vincent threatens and tortures the Naples police chief. Filming moved to the city in early December 2022 and used Piazza del Gesù, near the Montesanto funicular, along with corso Vittorio Emanuele and alleys such as via Sedile di Porto and via Sant'Aspreno.

Visitor guidance: A busy square in the historic centre; the Montesanto funicular is nearby.

Kalina Krasnaya: Shukshin's Vologda Country

Kalina Krasnaya (1973), Vasily Shukshin's last film as director, was shot around Belozersk in the Vologda region: a prison on Fiery Island, the village of Sadovaya, Timonino and a flooded church at Krokhino. The route follows Yegor Prokudin from the prison gate to the Sheksna crossing, using the places where the crew worked. Most pins are village-level, and several sets no longer exist.

Cars: The Route 66 Behind Radiator Springs

Radiator Springs is Route 66: Pixar's Cars town borrows its shape from Seligman, Arizona, the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook and the U-Drop Inn in Shamrock. The route follows the old highway west from Galena, Kansas — where the truck that became Mater still stands outside a restored service station — through a stone café in Stroud, Oklahoma, the Cadillac Ranch in Texas, and the Arizona motels that gave Radiator Springs its look. The town itself is fictional; every stop is a real Route 66 landmark the Pixar team used.

Poldark: Ross Poldark's Cornwall

Poldark's Cornwall is real Cornwall: the 2015 adaptation filmed Nampara, Wheal Leisure and Truro at St Agnes Head, Botallack and Charlestown, with Trenwith played by Chavenage House near Tetbury. This route follows eight locations from the 2015 adaptation, from the cliffs above St Agnes and the engine houses of Botallack to the beaches of the Lizard and the north coast. Most are open to the public, but they are working landscapes and nature reserves as much as film sets, so expect footpaths, tides and weather.
