What do the location labels mean?
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. The road trip's first adventure is Kabir's choice: deep-sea diving on the Costa Brava. Bound by a school-day pact, each friend must secretly choose an adventure sport that all three complete together. Arjun, who has a severe fear of water, is terrified, but Laila, their diving instructor, helps him overcome his phobia and complete the dive. The Costa Brava is the coast of the province of Girona.

Location precision: The film names only the Costa Brava, a whole stretch of coast, so the pin marks the region rather than a dive site.

  2. At Laila's suggestion, the friends postpone their trip to Seville to join the La Tomatina festival in Buñol with her and her friend Nuria. At the festival, participants throw tomatoes at each other. For the song "Ik Junoon" the festival was re-created for the cameras, and almost sixteen tons of tomatoes were flown in from Portugal for the scene.

Location precision: The festival was re-created for the song, so the pin marks Buñol, home of the real festival, not a confirmed set location.

  3. In Seville, Arjun reveals his chosen adventure: skydiving. Later, a prank at a bar leads to the trio's arrest, and to secure their release Imran contacts Salman, the father he came to Spain to find. Though hurt, Imran gains closure and sincerely apologises to Arjun for betraying him years earlier, and the friends reconcile. Seville is the capital and largest city of Andalusia.

Location precision: The film places these scenes in Seville without naming a specific site; the pin marks the city centre.

  4. The flamenco song "Señorita" was filmed in Alájar, a town in the province of Huelva in Andalusia. The scene was shot at night over three nights, so the crew warned local residents about the song's volume. Locals dressed in costumes came to watch, and the mayor of Alájar joined them. The town in the film is the real one, so its streets are where the song was staged.

Location precision: The song is a set piece of the film; the pin marks the town of Alájar, not an exact street.

  5. The journey ends in Pamplona, where Imran reveals his challenge: the running of the bulls. Before the run the friends make one final pact: if they survive, Imran will publish his poetry, and the others make promises of their own. They complete the run safely. The climax was filmed in Pamplona, home of the most famous bull-run, the encierro held during the nine-day festival of Sanfermines.

Location precision: The film's run is set in Pamplona; the pin marks Calle Estafeta, a search-based pin, not a confirmed filming spot.

Good Bye, Lenin!: East Berlin

Good Bye, Lenin! is set in East Berlin and shot largely on Karl-Marx-Allee and around Alexanderplatz, where Alex hides the fall of East Germany from his coma-waking mother. Its famous flying Lenin statue was filmed on the avenue. The route follows the plot through five places: the Kerners' flat on Berolinastraße, Alexanderplatz, the former Coca-Cola headquarters in Lichterfelde, Karl-Marx-Allee and the dacha in Finsterwalde. The flat's interiors were studio sets, so that pin is approximate.

Run Lola Run: Berlin in 20 Minutes

Run Lola Run is set and filmed in Berlin: a U-Bahn station, the bank at Bebelplatz, the Oberbaum Bridge and a casino in Schöneberg's town hall. Lola has 20 minutes to find 100,000 marks and save Manni, and the film replays them three times. This route follows the story through the real places where those scenes were shot, from the platform where the money is lost to the casino table where number 20 comes up twice. The film's own geography is loose, so the stops are filming sites rather than a running route.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona: Gaudí to Asturias

Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona is set in Barcelona and Oviedo and shot there and in Avilés, from the rooftop of Casa Milà to the Hotel de la Reconquista and the Avilés lighthouse. The route follows the summer of Vicky and Cristina in story order: Gaudí's chimneys, a spur-of-the-moment weekend in Asturias, Park Güell and the arched gate of Sant Pau. Each stop is a place where a scene from the film was set or shot.
