What do the location labels mean?
Exact
The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. In Bomont, at church, Ren McCormack meets the strict Reverend Shaw Moore, his wife Vi and their rebellious daughter Ariel. The church scenes, including the opening scene inside the church, were filmed in American Fork, where the film also shot the front porch scene with Kevin Bacon and his family and the gas station scene.

Location precision: The film sources call the church a Presbyterian church in American Fork; the pin marks American Fork Presbyterian Church, which may not be the exact building.

  2. At school Ren befriends Willard Hewitt, and the trouble with Ariel's boyfriend Chuck Cranston begins. Chuck challenges Ren to a game of chicken involving tractors, and Ren wins when his shoelace catches on the pedal. The high school and tractor scenes were filmed in and around Payson and Payson High School.

  3. The film's drive-in scenes were filmed in Provo, at what was then a branch of the Hi-Spot burger chain. The restaurant chain closed in the late 1980s, and there is now an auto parts store at that location, so there is nothing of the film set to see.

Location precision: The source gives only Provo for the former Hi-Spot; the pin marks Provo, not the exact lot.

  4. Across state lines, Ren takes Willard, Ariel and her friend Rusty to a honky-tonk, where an embarrassed Willard ends up in a fight. The bar scene was filmed at the Silver Spur bar in downtown Provo. The bar and nearby buildings were demolished to make way for the Utah Valley Convention Center.

Location precision: The Silver Spur is gone; the pin marks the Utah Valley Convention Center, which was built where the bar and nearby buildings stood.

  5. Ren's dance montage is set in the Geneva steel mill, where Bacon said he had four stunt doubles for his warehouse dance. The mill stood in Vineyard and operated from December 1944 to November 2001. In 2014 Utah Valley University purchased 125 acres of the Geneva Steel site for a new West Campus.

  6. Reverend Moore blesses the prom in a grain mill just over the county line, and Ren and Ariel dance the night away. The Lehi Roller Mills was the prom location, and Kevin Bacon worked at the mills himself to get a feel for his character. The original brick building was built in 1905, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, and still stands as Lehi Mills.

Visitor guidance: The building still stands on East Main Street in Lehi and is home to Lehi Mills.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Filming Locations

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was filmed at London's Millennium Bridge, Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, Fort William in Scotland, Norway's Rauma Line and the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. The route follows the 2009 film's scenes in order, from the bridge collapse that opens it to the sea cave where Harry and Dumbledore hunt a Horcrux. Hogwarts Express shots even left the UK for snow in Norway. Most spots are real places you can visit; the cave interior itself was computer-generated.
