Assassin's Creed III: Liberation: New Orleans and the Bayou
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is set in colonial New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou, with trips to Chichén Itzá in Mexico and New York, and a finale at St. Louis Cathedral.
The game follows the Assassin Aveline de Grandpré from 1765 to 1777. This route follows her story through five places in order. The bayou and New York stops are approximate: the game names regions, not exact sites.

Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
- Approximate
- The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
The story opens in 1765. Aveline de Grandpré operates in New Orleans from her family mansion while control of the city passes from France to Spain at the end of the French and Indian War. Much of the game takes place in New Orleans and the bayou around it. The French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in the city, is the best place to walk Aveline's New Orleans today.
Location precision: The game does not tie the mansion to a single address; the pin marks the French Quarter as a whole.
Visitor guidance: The French Quarter is a public neighborhood that can be explored on foot.

After the events of 1768, and against her mentor Agaté's orders, Aveline goes to Chichén Itzá in disguise. She has learned that slaves sent out of New Orleans were assigned to a Templar excavation site there. Inside the temple she beats the Templar de Ferrer to it, kills him and retrieves one piece of the Prophecy Disk. A year after the bayou fight she returns and recovers the second half. The real city lies in Yucatán, Mexico, and you can visit the archaeological site today.
Visitor guidance: Chichén Itzá is an archaeological site in Yucatán, Mexico, open to visitors.

In 1771, back in New Orleans, Aveline's friend and fellow Assassin Gérald Blanc warns her about a Templar named Diego Vázquez, who has been trying to take control of the Louisiana bayou. Learning that her mentor Agaté is in danger, Aveline repels Vázquez's men. The bayou around the city is the other half of the game's setting, a swamp world of Assassin hideouts and Templar schemes.

In 1777, Gérald tells Aveline of a Loyalist officer operating in New York who might know the identity of the Templar leader known as the Company Man. Aveline travels there, finds and kills the officer, who turns out to be Davidson. The trip is the last step before the truth about the Company Man brings her home to New Orleans.

The finale takes place at St. Louis Cathedral. Aveline meets her stepmother Madeleine there to be initiated into the Templar Order. There she reveals her true intentions and kills Madeleine and the other attending Templars. The cathedral stands in the French Quarter and is the oldest cathedral in continuous use in the United States, so the last scene can be visited in the same place.
Visitor guidance: St. Louis Cathedral stands in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
