Money Heist: Madrid's Mint and Bank of Spain
A man known as the Professor recruits eight robbers named after cities, puts them in red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks, and sends them into the Royal Mint of Spain. Two heists later, the target is the Bank of Spain.
Neither building is what it seems: the Mint is the headquarters of Spain's national research council, and the bank is a government ministry. The route follows the Madrid places where the series was filmed, in story order, from a farm estate in Torrelodones to a staircase in the Casino de Madrid.

Timeline & locations
What do the location labels mean?
- Exact
- The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Flashbacks show the gang spending five months preparing at an abandoned hunting estate in the Toledo countryside. The rules are strict: no personal information, no personal relationships, and a warning that there will be casualties. The estate is not near Toledo at all. The scenes were filmed at the Finca El Gasco farm estate in Torrelodones, in the Madrid region.

The Professor heads the heist from an external location, not from inside the Mint. On screen his secret warehouse is at Calle Alcántara 30. The real building is at number 30 of Calle Miguel Yuste, in the San Blas-Canillejas district, so the street name in the series is not the street you can walk down. Madrid's tourism office points it out as the warehouse from which the Professor gave his orders.

In Part 1 the robbers take 67 hostages inside the Royal Mint. After 128 hours they escape with €984 million, while Oslo, Moscow and Berlin are killed. The building on screen is not the Mint: the exterior scenes were filmed at the headquarters of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which resembles the Mint only loosely. The real Mint stands on Calle de Jorge Juan; Madrid's tourism office says security and the narrow street ruled it out.

In episode 3 the protagonists climb up to the roof of the Mint. The CSIC headquarters has no roof they could use, so these scenes were filmed on top of the Higher Technical School of Aeronautical Engineers, part of the Technical University of Madrid, at Cardenal Cisneros 3. Two different buildings together make the one Mint of the screen, and neither is the real institution on Calle de Jorge Juan.

Part 3 begins when the Professor picks up Berlin's old plan to assault the Bank of Spain, to force Europol to hand over Rio. Then Madrid's Plaza de Callao becomes the square where thousands of 50-euro notes are thrown from the sky, dropped by an airship with the Four Towers business area in the background. The square is real and public, in the centre of the capital, and now a pedestrian space.
Visitor guidance: A pedestrian square in central Madrid, open at all hours.

In the second heist the disguised robbers sneak into the heavily guarded bank, take hostages and go for the gold, while the police run their command post from a tent outside. The real Bank of Spain, which houses 280 tonnes of the Spanish gold reserve, was unavailable for filming for security reasons. The exterior is instead the Nuevos Ministerios government complex, finished in 1942; even the Metro sign reading Banco de España is really the Nuevos Ministerios station.
Visitor guidance: The open space of the complex is used as a park by locals; the Nuevos Ministerios station is nearby.

In a flashback in Part 4, episode 3, the Professor and Berlin debate whether Palermo, put in charge of the new heist in Part 3 and also in the scene, should really lead the Bank of Spain job. It is filmed inside the Casino de Madrid, whose spectacular modernist staircase and Bar Las Estancias can be seen on screen. According to Madrid's tourism office, it is here that Berlin has a problem with his bow tie.
