Trainspotting: Edinburgh and Glasgow
Trainspotting is set in Leith, Edinburgh, but was filmed almost entirely in Glasgow: only the opening chase down Princes Street and Calton Road was shot in the capital. Rouken Glen Park, Jordanhill School and a pub on Queen Margaret Drive fill in for Edinburgh, and Corrour station supplies the film's "great outdoors" scene.
The route follows Renton and his friends from Leith through the chase, the park, the bar and the school to a remote Highland platform. Where a location guide's pub or a bridge name is uncertain, the stop says so.

Mark Renton is an unemployed heroin addict living with his parents in Leith, a former port town now part of Edinburgh. Irvine Welsh's novel follows a group of drug users in the same area in the 1980s, and the film keeps that setting while shooting almost everything else in Glasgow. Leith, once a separate port, was incorporated with Edinburgh in 1920.
場所の精度: The film says only that Renton lives in Leith; the pin marks the district, not a particular home.

Trainspotting opens at full tilt: Renton and Spud sprint along Princes Street, chased by shop security guards for shoplifting. A location guide says the shop they raid was John Menzies bookstore, now a branch of Next at 107-109 Princes Street. It is the only scene of the film actually shot in Edinburgh; the rest was filmed in Glasgow. Princes Street is still the capital's main shopping street, running from Lothian Road to Leith Street and looking over Princes Street Gardens.
訪問のヒント: A public street; Princes Street Gardens face the shops.

The chase leaves Princes Street at its eastern end. Renton races down the steps from Leith Street to Calton Road and is hit by a car. Wikipedia places the scene on Calton Road under Regent Bridge, the road bridge where the A1 enters Edinburgh's New Town from the east, passing over a hollow near Calton Hill. A location guide calls the span the Calton Street Bridge.
場所の精度: Two sources name the bridge differently; the pin marks Regent Bridge above Calton Road.
訪問のヒント: The steps and road are public; the bridge carries the A1 above Calton Road.

Sick Boy and Renton sit in a park and argue about James Bond, Sean Connery and The Name of the Rose. That scene, set in Edinburgh, was shot at Rouken Glen Park, a public park south-west of Glasgow in East Renfrewshire. A location guide notes that the earlier film Shallow Grave also used the park for its burial scene.
訪問のヒント: A public park south of Glasgow city centre, on the rail line from Central Station.

Francis Begbie is the group's aggressive alcoholic psychopath and de facto leader. In the galleried bar scene he holds the crowd with his pool story, then shows how not to dispose of a beer mug. A location guide places the bar on Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow, since gussied up as the Kelbourne Saint at number 182. Like most of the film's Edinburgh, it is really Glasgow.
訪問のヒント: The bar was the Kelbourne Saint when the location guide was written; check it is still trading under that name.

After a night out, Renton goes home with Diane and is horrified to learn next morning that she is underage and lives with her parents. The school she attends in the film is Jordanhill in Glasgow's West End, a real school that also served as a Trainspotting location. Shot in mid-1995 over seven weeks, the film used Glasgow for almost all of its Edinburgh scenes, and the school is one of them. It is a working school, so it is not open to visitors.

Corrour station is the setting of the film's "great outdoors" scene, where Tommy suggests the group climb the mountain Leum Uilleim. At 1,340 feet it is the highest mainline station in the United Kingdom, on the northern edge of Rannoch Moor near Loch Ossian, and no public road reaches it. The nearest road is a ten-mile walk away by hill track, and the station is a starting point for hill-walkers and Munro-baggers.
訪問のヒント: There is no public road; the nearest road is a ten-mile walk away by hill track.
