What do the location labels mean?
Exact
The pin marks the actual place where it happened or was filmed.
Approximate
The right area — a town, park or district — but not a precise spot.
  1. John B's house is the Chateau, the home he keeps after his father, Big John, disappears. It is the Pogues' meeting ground, with a backyard strung with fairy lights, a boat dock and a chicken coop used mostly to hide from bounty hunters. Scenes there were filmed in the Secessionville Historic District, a small James Island neighborhood near Folly Beach with six historic buildings, including Greek Revival and Victorian houses, and the site of the 1862 Battle of Secessionville. The district was listed on the National Register in 1979.

Location precision: The show does not name the Chateau's address; the pin marks the Secessionville Historic District.

  2. Shem Creek stands in for the Pogues' harbor, where their boats run between the Cut and Figure Eight. Kildare Island is split in two: wealthy Kooks on the north side at Figure 8, working-class Pogues on the south at the Cut. The creek is a working harbor with a shrimp dock, fish markets, a marina and a boardwalk lined with restaurants and bars. Shem Creek Park and its 3,000-foot boardwalk opened in October 2011, and dolphins, egrets and manatees are regularly seen in the water. The boat scenes were mainly filmed here, eight miles east of Charleston.

Location precision: The boat scenes were shot along Shem Creek; the pin marks its waterfront in Mount Pleasant.

Visitor guidance: Shem Creek Park's boardwalk and waterfront are public; the creek is busy with boats and restaurants.

  3. Heyward's Seafood is Pope's family business, a shorefront shrimp shop where Pope helps his father between treasure hunts. The real place is Geechie Seafood, a fresh seafood market on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. In the show the shop is known for its fresh shrimp, and Pope's father Heyward is played by E. Roger Mitchell. Geechie is a working market rather than a set: the shop still sells fresh seafood on the creek, and that is the thing to see.

  4. Tannyhill is the Cameron family's mansion in Figure Eight, the wealthy north side of Kildare. Sarah Cameron lives there with her family, and the house once belonged to Denmark Tanny, a formerly enslaved man who survived the Royal Merchant shipwreck and whose story is the root of the treasure hunt. The real Tannyhill is Lowndes Grove, a 14-acre estate on the Ashley River built around 1786, with a five-bay piazza and Doric columns added in about 1830. The restored house has been an event venue since 2007.

  5. The Boneyard is the beach where the Cut meets Figure Eight, and John B calls it a three-layer burrito of Pogues, Kooks and tourons. It is also where he and Topper get into a drunken brawl in the first episode. The stand-in is Hunting Island State Park, 15 miles east of Beaufort: more than four miles of beach, driftwood and maritime forest, with the lighthouse on the island. TripAdvisor listed the beach among its Top 25 in the United States in 2013.

  6. After John B finds his father's compass in the Royal Merchant wreckage, he and Kiara go to the Redfield Lighthouse for answers about Big John and the shipwreck. The keeper grows suspicious and calls the cops, cutting the visit short. The lighthouse is Hunting Island Lighthouse, no longer working but the only publicly accessible lighthouse in South Carolina. The tower was completed in 1875 and moved a mile inland in 1889 as the beach eroded; 167 steps lead to the viewing deck.

Visitor guidance: The lighthouse reopened on 26 May 2026 after repairs; visitors can climb to the deck for a small fee.

  7. Kiara's parents own the Wreck, the seafood restaurant where she waits tables and where the Pogues gather between treasure hunts. She is often busy serving customers, but she is not afraid to ditch work to help her friends when they are in trouble, much to her parents' dismay. The real restaurant is the Wreck of the Richard and Charlene on Shem Creek, named after a boat wrecked there during Hurricane Hugo in 1989. It is still a working seafood restaurant on the creek's bank.

  8. After the trip to UNC Chapel Hill, John B and Sarah take the Carolina Belle home and share their first kiss at the ferry dock in the rain. The boat is operated by Charleston Harbor Tours, and the kiss was filmed on the Charleston Maritime Center pier. The university scenes were shot at the Charleston Gaillard Center, a nonprofit arts center in downtown Charleston that hosts music, dance, comedy and theater.

  9. John B takes Sarah to his secret spot, the bell tower of an old church that his father, Big John, used to visit. It becomes their hiding place after Sheriff Peterkin is murdered, and in Episode 9 Rafe burns the church down while they are inside. The building is the Old Bethel AME Church in McClellanville, built in 1872 and the first African American church in the village. Its square-based steeple and cemetery with graves from the 1880s survive; the church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Walking Dead: Atlanta to Senoia

The Walking Dead was filmed across Georgia, with downtown Atlanta, Bellwood Quarry, the Cobb Energy Centre and Senoia standing in for its apocalyptic sets. This route follows the show from Rick's first ride into Atlanta, through the survivors' camp at the quarry and the CDC, then south to the town that became Woodbury and to Rick's home town, and on to Alexandria and the Kingdom. The Fast and the Furious: Dom Toretto's Los Angeles

The Fast and the Furious (2001) turned real Los Angeles places into Dom Toretto's world: Dodger Stadium, Bob's Market in Echo Park, the house on East Kensington Road and Neptune's Net in Malibu. This route follows nine of those places in story order, from the opening test at Dodger Stadium to the final race on Terminal Island, with a detour to Race Wars at San Bernardino. Some are working shops, homes or airport ground; the film's streets are still the draw.

Stand by Me: Castle Rock to the Trestle

Stand by Me moves King's Castle Rock from Maine to Oregon: Rob Reiner shot the 1986 film in Brownsville, along the Row River railway and at a California trestle. Four boys walk out of town to find a missing boy's body, and the trip changes them. This route follows the film in story order, from Brownsville's Main Street and the treehouse to the saloon and diner where the trip is set in motion, the Row River Trail bridge near Cottage Grove, a Junction City general store, the 80-foot trestle above Lake Britton and the Calapooia River bridge where the boys part. Most stops are in Oregon; the trestle is in California.
