Notting Hill: From Portobello Road to the Savoy
A famous American actress walks into a Notting Hill travel bookshop, and its shy owner falls for her: that is the whole of Notting Hill, and somehow it is enough. Hugh Grant stammers, Julia Roberts glows, and London plays itself, from the market street of Portobello Road to a midnight garden and a press conference at the Savoy.
The route follows the film in story order, from the bookshop at 142 Portobello Road and the blue door at 280 Westbourne Park Road to the Ritz, a birthday party, the private garden, the Henry James set at Kenwood House and the Savoy finale. The flat interiors were studio sets and the garden is private, so some pins are for looking rather than entering.

Moments after Anna leaves the shop, Will bumps into her rounding a street corner, spilling juice over her, and takes her to his flat across the street so she can change. As she leaves, she impulsively kisses him. The exterior is 280 Westbourne Park Road, a house owned by writer Richard Curtis, though the flat itself was made up in the studios. The blue door was auctioned for charity, and the current door is blue again.

That afternoon Anna invites Will to her hotel, the Ritz, where he is mistaken for a reporter and swept into a press event for her new film. Asked who he writes for, he invents Horse and Hound magazine, an alias he will reuse in the finale. The crew moved to the Ritz after six weeks in Notting Hill and had to film there at night. The Ritz London is a 5-star luxury hotel at 150 Piccadilly, opened by Swiss hotelier César Ritz in 1906.

Later that night the two enter a private neighbourhood park, where Anna kisses Will again. The garden is Rosmead Gardens on Rosmead Road, the communal garden they break into after dark. It returns in the closing shot, when a pregnant Anna and Will spend time in the private park from their first date. The garden is private with no public access, so this stop is for the story rather than a visit.

Kenwood, also known as the Iveagh Bequest, is a stately home in Hampstead on the northern edge of Hampstead Heath, remodelled for Lord Mansfield by Robert Adam in 1764.

For the finale everyone races across London to Anna's press conference at the Savoy Hotel. Posing once more as a Horse and Hound reporter, Will asks whether Anna would be more than friends if he begs her forgiveness, and she says yes, then answers the room's question about how long she will stay in Britain with a smiling Indefinitely. The proposal was filmed in the Lancaster Room. The Savoy is a luxury hotel on the Strand, opened in 1889.
Visitor guidance: The hotel is on the Strand.
